On Wednesday February 22, two Senior Vice Presidents of The Estée Lauder Companies came to Bryn Mawr to speak to students about branding ourselves for our careers and life. The event was well attended by close to 45 students eager to learn about networking and women in business.

Mandarin Interpretation with SEAMAAC

On Monday night, I received a surprise email from Andy Toy, whom I interviewed last time, looking for Mandarin translators for a meeting with store owners in South Philly. At first I was hesitant about whether my limited Chinese skills were sufficient to do the job, but before I knew it, my friend signed us both up.

InVisIBle: A Thesis Performance
I had the honor of working with my good friend JoyAngelica Chan’17 and 5 other Bi-Co dancers on Joy’s thesis dance piece InVisIBle, which was performed last Saturday and Sunday nights in the Hepburn Teaching Theater. Joy had been working on this project for the past 9 months, including the approximate 4 months of rehearsals with the dancers.

Lunar Love Party
Asian student groups from Temple, Villanova, Drexel, and Bryn Mawr (the Bryn Mawr Korean Students Association) host a couple parties every school year in Philadelphia. The last time I attended one of their events was my first year at Bryn Mawr. I decided to give these intercollegiate Asian parties another chance last Friday night.

FUCS: Rico Nasty // Eu1ogy
To round off my weekend of fun before Sunday’s homework duties call me, I went to the FUCS show at Haverford on Saturday night. The performers were Eu1ogy and Rico Nasty, both up and coming artists whom I have never heard of before. This was the first FUCS show of the Spring semester, and I was glad I made it out to enjoy my numbered free college concerts before I graduate.

Girls Night Out in Chinatown
My friends and I spent a much deserved Saturday night out in Philadelphia’s Chinatown for dinner and desserts tonight. We hit up Sakura Mandarin for dinner and Dumpling II for dessert. It was a nice break from dining hall food and a time for us to distract ourselves from school and boy problems, among other things.
Senior Cocktails III: Rock Bottom
The Class of 2017 came together last night for a third senior cocktail party in Erdman common room. Our awesome class presidents Priyanka Dutta and Hannah Henderson-Charnow once again hosted a successful party with themed decorations, drinks, snacks, and music.

Hidden Figures at BMFI
The Bryn Mawr College Computer Science and Physics Departments sponsored tickets to see the film Hidden Figures at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute on Wednesday, February 8. The film stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe as real life NASA mathematicians Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson who were involved in calculating the US’s first trajectories into space in the 1960s.

Weekend in NYC, Part 2: Chinese New Year with Family
My family on my mom’s side makes an effort to get together every year for Chinese New Year. This year was no exception. As the cousins in my generation aged into college, it was harder to get everyone together. But this year, I made the journey into NYC for the special family reunion. Even my cousins from Penn State who live in Harrisburg made the long drive to New York. My family is Cantonese Chinese American, but the traditional food is still an essential part to our family gatherings.
