Parsons Dance at Prince Theater

On Saturday December 10, Joy and I attended the Parson Dance Performance at the Prince Theater. We were especially excited to see the performance because we had just taken a masterclass with two of the dancers the day before. The house was quite crowded, but we managed to buy student rush tickets for two seats next to each other at the back of the house. The program consisted of 6 pieces with a brief intermission and Q & A with the company at the end of the show.FullSizeRender 2 Continue reading

Parsons Dance Masterclass

The Parsons Dance Company, a New York City based modern dance company, is in Philadelphia this weekend performing new and familiar works. As part of their visit, they also led an open masterclass for the community hosted by NextMove Dance at Drexel University’s Ellen Forman Studio. Most who attended were students from Drexel, but some were adults from the city, a student from Swarthmore, and two from Bryn Mawr — my friend Joy Chan ’17 and me.

The Last Snowball

I am really not much of a “party-er,” but when it comes to making the most of senior year, that includes attending my last college parties. On Saturday December 2nd, Haverford hosted their annual Snowball, an end of the semester semiformal. The party is usually held in the Dining Center, but this year it was held in Founders. This weekend was already a pretty busy weekend with Senior Cocktails, FUCS, Performing Arts Series, and looming finals, but my friends and I made it out to Founders dressed in fancy dresses ready for the photo opportunities and the chicken tenders (and maybe some dancing and a little extra).

Ms. Lisa Fischer and Grand Baton

Legendary singer and 2-time Grammy winner Lisa Fischer graced Bryn Mawr College two times this week. First was on the movie screen in the documentary “20 Feet From Stardom” showing hosted by the Provost’s Office and the Sociology Department on Thursday December 1. Second was on the Goodhart McPherson mainstage with her band Grand Baton playing as part of the Bryn Mawr Performing Arts Series on Saturday December 3.CyylrDyVIAAD2HC Continue reading

FUCS Show: Screaming Females

Also on Friday December 2nd was the last Haverford Fords United Concert Series (FUCS) show of the year. The lineup featured Mannequin Pussy and Screaming Females and was held in Lunt basement. Joy and I attended the Bryn Mawr Senior Cocktails before going to FUCS, so we missed Mannequin Pussy’s performance. We did manage to catch and stay for the entire Screaming Females set.15349744_10155137377037923_619845800529365374_n Continue reading

Senior Cocktails #2: Deep Sea

Senior Cocktails #2 of the year happened Friday December 2nd in Erdman Common Room. The theme was Deep Sea / Under the Sea, and class presidents Priyanka Dutta and Hannah Henderson-Charnow once again delivered a spectacular party. They spent hours prior to the party decorating the plain common room according to the theme. There were inflatable whales and a swan, multiple backdrops with lights and streamers, “squids” made from suspended umbrellas and string, and an excellent selection of snacks and drinks.15326348_10155137374872923_344013225295356094_n Continue reading

LILAC Alumna in Residence: Marissa Patterson, Family Nurse Practitioner

On Friday December 2, LILAC invited Marissa Patterson (’08 Biology & Anthropology Major) back to campus to talk about her path after Bryn Mawr and her job as an FNP at Family Practice and Counseling Network. I attended both the Wyndham lunch and a one-on-one informational interview with Marissa. This opportunity to learn more about the nursing career from an alum’s experience was special to me because I hope to pursue nursing after Bryn Mawr. Marissa had also commented on one of my Banter Blog posts, and I referred her to LILAC head Katie Krimmel to arrange for Marissa to be invited to campus. Wyndham-Alumnae-House-Wedding-Bryn-Mawr-PA-15_main.1429033529 Continue reading

Political Economy Talk by Dr. William Dunkelberg

The Philadelphia Chapter for the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) hosted a lecture by economist Dr. William Dunkelberg on “How will this Election impact Policy Financial Markets and Growth?” at Bryn Mawr College on Tuesday November 29. The event was not affiliated with the college, so I had not known that the event was happening. A friend of mine has an aunt who organizes AAII events and invited me to come along. Economics is not really my specialty, but I was interested in the subject and thought it would be worthwhile to learn more about finances.

Thanksgiving Break 2016

I spent my final Thanksgiving break of my undergraduate career with friends and family in my hometown Ridgewood, NJ. Thanksgiving is the final mini break before finals and the end of the fall semester, so I gladly took my rest and ate my good food in good company. Here’s the super concise debriefing of my short break:IMG_6310 Continue reading

Catching up with Amanda (BMC’16)

Last Tuesday November 22, I got the chance to catch up with my good friend Amanda (BMC’16) who is a current grad student at University of Pennsylvania’s Urban Spatial Analytics masters program. Although Amanda was a cities major at Bryn Mawr and I am a physics major, we managed to share one 20th century Eastern European history course together last fall semester. We also knew each other through working on the Bryn Mawr Concert Series board. We grabbed dinner at Ochatto near Penn’s campus, and I listened to her candid opinions on life after Bryn Mawr.IMG_6302
