Yesterday, February 8, was the Lunar New Year. Many Asian cultures celebrate this holiday, including the Chinese (春节chūn jié), Koreans (설날 Seollal), Vietnamese (Tết). My family celebrates by going out to eat for Chinese food, decorating the house a little with Chinese ornaments, and of course, red envelopes of money given to the children and unmarried. I was unable to join my family to celebrate with them this year, but I found ways to celebrate at Bryn Mawr.

Faculty Dance Concert
Last night, I got a chance to see my jazz ensemble teacher and other dance faculty perform at the Faculty Dance Concert. It was nice to see the faculty as professional performers and not just our instructors and choreographers. Continue reading

First Week of Classes at Bryn Mawr
New classes, fresh classmates, the R100, two dance ensemble auditions, a canceled culture show, and a winter snow storm later, I have finally finished my first week of classes at Bryn Mawr!
I am taking 4 classes this semester: Advanced Electronics Lab, Fundamentals of Nutrition, Three Faces of Chinese Power: Money, Might, and Minds, Might, and Fundamentals of Technical Theater. In addition, I successfully auditioned into the Hip-Hop and Jazz Ensembles.
This semester is one of many firsts. This is the first time I am taking a Penn class, my first time taking an 8 hour a week lab class, my first time taking a 300 level humanities class, my first time taking an Art/Theater class, and my first time attempting to dance in more than 1 dance ensemble at a time.
The homework is already piling up… just like the snow right now!!!

DONE IS GOOD: A Look Back at Fall 2015
(Excuse my writing hiatus. Once I turned in my last final, winter break hit me hard.)
HOORAY!!! I survived the fall semester of my junior year! It’s been another busy and academically challenging year, but I’ve learned a lot and made many happy memories.
Greasepaint Productions: Next to Normal
The Greasepaint Productions musical “Next to Normal” was also the weekend before finals. Greasepaint is a Bi-Co theater club that puts together one small musical per semester. Their shows are in the Bryn Mawr Hepburn teaching theater or the Haverford DC Blackbox. “Next to Normal” is about a family trying to deal with the mother’s bipolar disorder. The father and the mother married when they were young. Since the mother’s bipolar diagnosis, the father is fighting depression, the mother hallucinates about her dead son and misses her emotions she doesn’t feel while on medication, and the daughter feels neglected and turns rebellious.
Finals Got Me Like…
I haven’t been able to write as much as I wanted to because it’s finals week at Bryn Mawr College! I have 3 posts coming up that I will finish after finals so stay tuned… Meanwhile, I’m 1 exam and 1 essay away from winter break!
BMCS Bonding + Miley Cyrus Concert Review
The Bryn Mawr Concert Series committee enjoyed a fun night together this past Saturday night. (No, we didn’t go to Snowball.) We had received SGA funding to do bonding activities, which meant dinner at Sushiland and a Miley Cyrus concert. Our committee is made up of students who apply through SGA appointments to join, so not everyone knows each other before joining (or has the same music taste). Continue reading
Career Paths in Game Design: A Panel Discussion
When you play games, do you wonder what goes into designing them, making them, marketing them? Do you wonder how the place of women in the game industry has or has not changed over the years? Do you wonder how you might break into the industry and what kind of roles are available and viable? Dr. Jennifer Spohrer (Bryn Mawr College), Nicole Kline and Anthony Amato (Cardboard Fortress Games), and Ron Magin (Mayfair Games) discuss the aspects of the gaming industry and the creative process behind designing games. The even was organized and moderated by Patrick Crowley, Rare Books Catalog Librarian at Bryn Mawr College Library. Continue reading
