I ended my Saturday night with a f u c s show in Haverford’s Lunt Basement featuring eskimeaux and Animals Maps. I had found out about the concert from a f u c s poster in New Dorm Dining Hall and was immediately excited because I had actually heard of eskimeaux before! (f u c s usually brings in super indie bands I’ve never heard of before.) Continue reading

On Friday, I attended the LILAC lunch with Mahnoor Ahmed, Bryn Mawr Class of 2003. Ahmed was a Comparative Literature major with a minor in Biology. Currently, she is the Associate Director of Student Diversity and Development at Towson University. She talked about her career path after Bryn Mawr, gave us advice on investing in ourselves, and answered our questions we had about life after Bryn Mawr.

Economist Alice M. Rivlin ’52 on Inclusive Prosperity in the USA
On Tuesday, Economist Alice M. Rivlin ’52 gave a talk on “Is Inclusive Prosperity in the U.S. Possible?” in Thomas Great Hall.
Rivlin was the founding director of the Congressional Budget Office, Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve, and Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget under Clinton. Currently she is Director of the Health Policy Center at the Brookings Institution and Leonard D. Schaeffer Chair in Health Policy. She is also a senior fellow in the Economic Studies Program at the Brookings Institution and a visiting professor at the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University.
The event was very well attended by students and the outside public. I found it especially empowering to be in the presence of such a high achieving Bryn Mawr alum — definitely among the most prominent alum I have met so far.

My Chinese New Year 2016
Yesterday, February 8, was the Lunar New Year. Many Asian cultures celebrate this holiday, including the Chinese (春节chūn jié), Koreans (설날 Seollal), Vietnamese (Tết). My family celebrates by going out to eat for Chinese food, decorating the house a little with Chinese ornaments, and of course, red envelopes of money given to the children and unmarried. I was unable to join my family to celebrate with them this year, but I found ways to celebrate at Bryn Mawr.
Faculty Dance Concert
Last night, I got a chance to see my jazz ensemble teacher and other dance faculty perform at the Faculty Dance Concert. It was nice to see the faculty as professional performers and not just our instructors and choreographers. Continue reading

Commuting Nightmares & How to Deal
Yesterday, I had to commute into University City for my 9AM Nutrition class at Penn. My commute, which usually takes about 50 minutes one way, took 1 hour and 45 minutes. I know I’m not the only one experiencing travel delays. Here’s to all the people making the trek outside in the aftermath of Winter Storm Jonas, the people shoveling to clear the train tracks and roads, and those of you who may have been smarter to stay home.
First Week of Classes at Bryn Mawr
New classes, fresh classmates, the R100, two dance ensemble auditions, a canceled culture show, and a winter snow storm later, I have finally finished my first week of classes at Bryn Mawr!
I am taking 4 classes this semester: Advanced Electronics Lab, Fundamentals of Nutrition, Three Faces of Chinese Power: Money, Might, and Minds, Might, and Fundamentals of Technical Theater. In addition, I successfully auditioned into the Hip-Hop and Jazz Ensembles.
This semester is one of many firsts. This is the first time I am taking a Penn class, my first time taking an 8 hour a week lab class, my first time taking a 300 level humanities class, my first time taking an Art/Theater class, and my first time attempting to dance in more than 1 dance ensemble at a time.
The homework is already piling up… just like the snow right now!!!

First Day of Class at The University of Pennsylvania
Yesterday was the first day of my NURS 065 Fundamentals of Nutrition Class. I am taking this class because it is a prerequisite course for accelerated nursing programs I would like to apply to after Bryn Mawr. The class is also not offered in the Tri-Co, so I am taking it at the University of Pennsylvania.
