Philadanco Master Class

Today, Philadanco led a free open master class open in Bryn Mawr College’s Pembroke studio. Philadanco, also known as the Philadelphia Dance Company, will perform tomorrow night Friday, September 23 at 8pm in Goodhart as part of the Bryn Mawr College Performing Arts Series. The performance is also part of Fringe Festival 2016. The Bryn Mawr College Dance Program has a partnership with the Performing Arts Series for hosting master classes with the visiting dance artists. This is a wonderful opportunity for Tri-Co students to interact with and learn from word class artists.IMG_5178 Continue reading

College Night at The Philadelphia Orchestra

Tonight, my two roommates and I attended the Free College Night Concert at the Kimmel Center featuring The Philadelphia Orchestra. Every year, The Philadelphia Orchestra hosts this event to introduce more young adults to the world-class music scene in Philadelphia. Attendees were encouraged to dress up and take pictures in their makeshift photo booth before the concert started at 8pm. The Philadelphia Orchestra performed Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique. A light dessert reception party with a rock band followed.FullSizeRender 4 Continue reading

Grad School Nursing Info Session

Last Friday, the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing hosted a joint grad school info session with Johns Hopkins Nursing and Columbia Nursing. I attended the session with two other Bryn Mawr students interested in nursing. Other than the information I gathered from university websites and from talking to upperclassmen, I have not found many in-person opportunities to learn about nursing school paths like this one.

They gave out some free “swag” as well like pens with their school name and a little first aid kit.

All Access Philadelphia Concert

Last Saturday night, I attended All Access Philadelphia at the Electric Factory, a free concert supporting abortion rights and access. The event combined live performances and DJ sets with educational facts about abortion and personal story video clips. There were even nonprofit organizations like Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and Women’s Medical Fund where concert goers could sign up to volunteer or learn more about women’s reproductive health policy. The lineup included Rye Rye, Tunde Olaniran, Rocky Rivera, Joie Kathos, and Pinkwash with DJ sets by DJ Diamond Kuts, DJ NiiLO (Bryn Mawr alum), DJ Kash.14292391_10154900398567923_4425329128300404006_n Continue reading

Grassroots AAPI Voter Registration

This past Saturday, I attended a voter registration workshop hosted by Asian Americans United, APIAVote, Cambodian Associations of Greater Philadelphia, and VietLead. The goal was to increase voter participation among Asian Americans in Chinatown. I had never registered anyone else to vote except myself, so I was curious what the process looked like on the grassroots level.14332973_10154900397662923_7923699760315469717_n Continue reading

CPGC Post-Internship Dinner

On Thursday night, I attended the Haverford College CPGC Post-Internship Dinner to discuss my final reflections on my summer in China and to listen to others share their summer experiences. There were about 40 of us Bi-Co interns and Haverford House Fellows who spent their summers volunteering in the USA and abroad in over 8 different countries. Over a pizza and brownies dinner, we discussed instances where we felt we did good, where we felt privileged, lonely, happy, etc.unnamed

Exerting College Independence Through Hair Dye

This past weekend, I was offered the creative freedom to ombre my friend’s hair. I really am no expert when it comes to hair dye, but people often assume so because currently I have blonde streaks in my hair. Over the course of my college career, I’ve experimented with a box of reddish brown hair dye I found in the free box my first year, a free ombre kit I got from Rent The Runway, and the blonde streaks I paid another Mawrter to do on me. (I also often get free haircuts from my roommate!)

Extreme Keys & S-chords Concert

Last night, the Bryn Mawr Extreme Keys and Haverford S-chords hosted a joint concert to celebrate their new members. The twist was that the S-chord new members had no idea they were going to be blind folded and led to the Radnor common room at Bryn Mawr to perform on the spot. The concert was an exemplary Bi-Co collaboration between two popular student run acapella groups.unnamed-4

Mastering the Art of Coffee House Studying

This weekend, one chance encounter with two of my friends at a Fall Student Dance Concert meeting ended in an afternoon spent studying at Hothouse Coffee. The next day, I would be back on the Mainline studying at La Colombe Coffee. I normally study in my room, so it was nice to get off campus to explore new study spaces. Coffee house studying was definitely something I knew many other students liked to do, but I never really got into it because I don’t really drink coffee.
