On Saturday December 10, Joy and I attended the Parson Dance Performance at the Prince Theater. We were especially excited to see the performance because we had just taken a masterclass with two of the dancers the day before. The house was quite crowded, but we managed to buy student rush tickets for two seats next to each other at the back of the house. The program consisted of 6 pieces with a brief intermission and Q & A with the company at the end of the show.

Parsons Dance Masterclass
The Parsons Dance Company, a New York City based modern dance company, is in Philadelphia this weekend performing new and familiar works. As part of their visit, they also led an open masterclass for the community hosted by NextMove Dance at Drexel University’s Ellen Forman Studio. Most who attended were students from Drexel, but some were adults from the city, a student from Swarthmore, and two from Bryn Mawr — my friend Joy Chan ’17 and me.

Political Economy Talk by Dr. William Dunkelberg
The Philadelphia Chapter for the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) hosted a lecture by economist Dr. William Dunkelberg on “How will this Election impact Policy Financial Markets and Growth?” at Bryn Mawr College on Tuesday November 29. The event was not affiliated with the college, so I had not known that the event was happening. A friend of mine has an aunt who organizes AAII events and invited me to come along. Economics is not really my specialty, but I was interested in the subject and thought it would be worthwhile to learn more about finances.
Thanksgiving Break 2016
I spent my final Thanksgiving break of my undergraduate career with friends and family in my hometown Ridgewood, NJ. Thanksgiving is the final mini break before finals and the end of the fall semester, so I gladly took my rest and ate my good food in good company. Catching up with Amanda (BMC’16)
Last Tuesday November 22, I got the chance to catch up with my good friend Amanda (BMC’16) who is a current grad student at University of Pennsylvania’s Urban Spatial Analytics masters program. Although Amanda was a cities major at Bryn Mawr and I am a physics major, we managed to share one 20th century Eastern European history course together last fall semester. We also knew each other through working on the Bryn Mawr Concert Series board. We grabbed dinner at Ochatto near Penn’s campus, and I listened to her candid opinions on life after Bryn Mawr.
Asian Mosaic Fund & AAPIP Gathering
On Friday November 18, I ventured out to Philly for the Asian Mosaic Fund and Asian American Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP) gathering. Friends of mine I knew from volunteering in the Philly Asian American community invited me. Although the crowded was a little older, I think it was good to introduce myself to a different crowd of involved Asian Americans.

Election Day
It has been a pretty stressful election season for many of us at the Mawr and beyond. Like me, you’ve probably been overexposed to media coverage of conversations and controversies surrounding the candidates. All of this culminated on Tuesday November 8th — election day. From back-to-back shuttles provided by Bryn Mawr College Civic Engagement to constant statistics updates and social media proof that so-and-so voted, the push to get out the vote, especially among college students, ran strong. GOTV Door Knocking with VietLead
With this weekend being the final push before election day on Tuesday November 8, VietLead dispatched a team of volunteers to door knock in Southwest Philadelphia encouraging residents to get out to vote. I joined the team as an independent volunteer, as did two other people, but there were also four first year Swarthmore Asian Organization students, two representatives from the Asian Pacific American Labor Association in D.C., and four VietLead members, including the president of VietLead Nancy Nguyen.

Penn Philippine Association Dinner + Hillary/Kaine Rally
One spontaneous night out in Philly this Saturday October 22, my friends and I decided to go to Penn Philippine Association’s (PPA) Kamayan food event, which then lead to a bubble tea outing, the Hillary/Kaine rally, and some new friends. Like I mentioned in a previous post about The Senior Year Mentality, I am trying to explore more outside of the Bryn Mawr bubble.

Phone Banking & Debate Watch Party ft. Constance Wu
On Wednesday October 19, I participated in my first phone banking on behalf of the Democratic National Party. The event was hosted by Pennsylvania AAPI for Hillary (AAPI = Asian American Pacific Islander), and the goal of the night was to get registered Democrats in Philadelphia to volunteer for the campaign. Volunteer efforts include door knocking and phone banking to encourage people to vote. ABC Series Fresh Off the Boat star Constance Wu was also present to cheer us on and to talk about her support for Hillary. The phone banking event was followed by a debate watch party, also with Constance, at the Field House.
