NPR Ask Me Another at Haverford College

NPR listeners and fans in the Bi-Co gathered this Friday night November 4th at Haverford’s Marshall Auditorium for the first collegiate taping of the popular trivia game show Ask Me Another. The show was hosted by NPR’s Ophira Eisenberg, Jonathon Coulton, and Art Chung and featured four Haverford student contestants, with guest appearances by Eugene Mirman of Bob’s Burgers and the inventor of the Choco Taco Alan Drazen. This event was brought to Haverford College by the Haverford Speakers Committee and was free and open to the public.FullSizeRender 3 Continue reading

A Very GOTV Day

The perks of attending a women’s college in a swing state during election season are that a flood of celebrities and politicians pass through Philadelphia. On another beautiful sunny day at the Mawr this past Wednesday November 2, Academy Award winning actress Anne Hathaway made a stop at Bryn Mawr College, among other universities in the area. In her brief 10-minute speech, Hathaway encouraged us to get out and vote, and of course, to vote Hillary Clinton for president. With just less than a week to Election Day, the campaign spirit on campus has been very active. If the below picture does not accurately describe how invested Bryn Mawr students are in this election, let me tell you about the other ways students are getting involved in voter registration and participation outreach efforts.110216brynmawrhathaway3

Homemade Pastillas with Barkada

In the spirit of Halloween, Bi-Co Barkada hosted a Pastillas candy making workshop on Saturday October 29 in the Haverford Multicultural Center. Pastillas is a traditional Filipino milk candy made of condensed milk and powdered milk. They are sometimes flavored with chocolate, various fruits, and teas. The simple recipe makes it impossible to mess up.14568058_652491644929324_7519129100271840562_n Continue reading

Testing Microsoft Hololens in Class

The Bryn Mawr College Physics Senior Seminar class was in for a special treat on Monday October 24. Education specialists from Bryn Mawr College’s Blended Learning Initiative and Pearson Education Corporation brought in the latest Microsoft Hololens for students to test and give feedback on. Lucky for us, Pearson contacted Bryn Mawr College first about this demo opportunity because it turns out two Bryn Mawr alum work for Pearson! While the product is still in development, educators, gamers, and enthusiasts alike are already brainstorming uses in and out of the classroom. FullSizeRender 23

Penn Philippine Association Dinner + Hillary/Kaine Rally

One spontaneous night out in Philly this Saturday October 22, my friends and I decided to go to Penn Philippine Association’s (PPA) Kamayan food event, which then lead to a bubble tea outing, the Hillary/Kaine rally, and some new friends. Like I mentioned in a previous post about The Senior Year Mentality, I am trying to explore more outside of the Bryn Mawr bubble.

Family Weekend ft. My Parents

This weekend October 21-22 is Family Weekend at Bryn Mawr! Parents, family members, siblings, and friends unite to sit in on lectures, attend faculty talks, observe campus life, and participate in special activities like s’mores and acapella, movie night, and arts and crafts. My parents drove in from Ridgewood, NJ to do ALL of those. They claim that because it’s my last year at Bryn Mawr, it’s their last chance to experience Family Weekend (they’ve attended every year except my 2nd year).  IMG_5848 Continue reading

Phone Banking & Debate Watch Party ft. Constance Wu

On Wednesday October 19, I participated in my first phone banking on behalf of the Democratic National Party. The event was hosted by Pennsylvania AAPI for Hillary (AAPI = Asian American Pacific Islander), and the goal of the night was to get registered Democrats in Philadelphia to volunteer for the campaign. Volunteer efforts include door knocking and phone banking to encourage people to vote. ABC Series Fresh Off the Boat star Constance Wu was also present to cheer us on and to talk about her support for Hillary. The phone banking event was followed by a debate watch party, also with Constance, at the Field House.IMG_5816 Continue reading

The Ultimate Fall Break Recap

Since starting my break with the Japanese Breakfast concert, I’ve been on blog hiatus enjoying time with friends and family in Philly, Ridgewood, NYC, and Toronto. Looking back at what I’ve done and where I’ve been, it seems like I gravitate toward visiting a lot of arts, culture, and food-centered places. Here are some highlights from my fall break:IMG_5590 Continue reading
