POLL CLOSES MONDAY NOV. 9TH AT 8AM
I’ve been part of the Concert Series committee since Fall 2014. I design the posters and help out with social media and postering. Designing posters is my creative outlet for stress and homework. I also really like seeing and touching my “artwork” around campus.
While not everyone on the committee has the same taste in music, we eventually pull together a lineup that the masses enjoys. You wouldn’t believe how expensive singers and bands could get until you work behind the scenes on the organizing side of concerts.
Putting together a concert requires a lot of team work and good communication.
Our committee consists of 8 people:
- 2 co-heads
- 2 outreach managers
- 1 secretary/student activities coordinator
- 1 social media manager
- 1 campus outreach manager
- 1 poster designer (me)
I think the most stressful parts of organizing concerts are reaching out to record agencies to negotiate dates and prices and making sure lots of people show up to the concert. It’s also difficult to plan ahead for concerts because BMCS receives their funding from SGA in mid-September. Ideally, it would be best to start negotiating prices in the summer. That’s when most bands book their tours. Then there’s the stress of waiting for bands to reply and confirm contracts after emailing back and forth. Music culture is not totally alive at Bryn Mawr either. Bryn Mawr students are very studious, and it’s sometimes difficult to get students to leave their homework in their dorm rooms or the library on a Friday night to go see a concert in their own campus center.
Hopefully this concert will be a good one! I can’t wait to announce the lineup once votes are in. See you at the show…
