Weekend Shenanigans

This post is a culmination of going out to Philadelphia over the weekend of Friday April 14 – Saturday April 15. With so little time left in undergrad and uncertainty of where I’ll end up postgrad (NYC? Philly? Wisconsin? Connecticut?), there’s no time better than now to explore Philadelphia! Thank you to my shared monthly SEPTA pass and my close Mawrter friends for all the fun times (and all the ups and downs of college). Continue reading

SEAMAAC’s 33rd Annual Board Meeting

Last night was SEAMAAC’s 33rd Annual Board Meeting and Dinner at Dim Sum House. Staff, board members, and a few guests celebrated the nonprofit’s accomplishments of 2016 working with and expanding their social services programs in South Philly. My friend and I were invited as guests.  Continue reading

Another Night Out in Philly

After the Bryn Mawr Performing Arts Series event, my friend Joy Chan (’17) and I went into the city for a friend date. Joy knows the city very well as she currently lives there with her sister this semester teaching full time and commuting to Bryn Mawr for classes. She took me to my first oyster bar and my first Franklin Fountain ice cream.

Mandarin Interpretation with SEAMAAC

Remember my post about SEAMAAC earlier on my blog? On Monday night, I received a surprise email from Andy Toy, whom I interviewed last time, looking for Mandarin translators for a meeting with store owners in South Philly. At first I was hesitant about whether my limited Chinese skills were sufficient to do the job, but before I knew it, my friend signed us both up. Continue reading

Girls Night Out in Chinatown

My friends and I spent a much deserved Saturday night out in Philadelphia’s Chinatown for dinner and desserts tonight. We hit up Sakura Mandarin for dinner and Dumpling II for dessert. It was a nice break from dining hall food and a time for us to distract ourselves from school and boy problems, among other things.

Weekend in NYC, Part 2: Chinese New Year with Family

My family on my mom’s side makes an effort to get together every year for Chinese New Year. This year was no exception. As the cousins in my generation aged into college, it was harder to get everyone together. But this year, I made the journey into NYC for the special family reunion. Even my cousins from Penn State who live in Harrisburg made the long drive to New York. My family is Cantonese Chinese American, but the traditional food is still an essential part to our family gatherings. Continue reading

Parsons Dance at Prince Theater

On Saturday December 10, Joy and I attended the Parson Dance Performance at the Prince Theater. We were especially excited to see the performance because we had just taken a masterclass with two of the dancers the day before. The house was quite crowded, but we managed to buy student rush tickets for two seats next to each other at the back of the house. The program consisted of 6 pieces with a brief intermission and Q & A with the company at the end of the show.FullSizeRender 2 Continue reading

Parsons Dance Masterclass

The Parsons Dance Company, a New York City based modern dance company, is in Philadelphia this weekend performing new and familiar works. As part of their visit, they also led an open masterclass for the community hosted by NextMove Dance at Drexel University’s Ellen Forman Studio. Most who attended were students from Drexel, but some were adults from the city, a student from Swarthmore, and two from Bryn Mawr — my friend Joy Chan ’17 and me.

The Last Snowball

I am really not much of a “party-er,” but when it comes to making the most of senior year, that includes attending my last college parties. On Saturday December 2nd, Haverford hosted their annual Snowball, an end of the semester semiformal. The party is usually held in the Dining Center, but this year it was held in Founders. This weekend was already a pretty busy weekend with Senior Cocktails, FUCS, Performing Arts Series, and looming finals, but my friends and I made it out to Founders dressed in fancy dresses ready for the photo opportunities and the chicken tenders (and maybe some dancing and a little extra).
