Last night, the Bryn Mawr Extreme Keys and Haverford S-chords hosted a joint concert to celebrate their new members. The twist was that the S-chord new members had no idea they were going to be blind folded and led to the Radnor common room at Bryn Mawr to perform on the spot. The concert was an exemplary Bi-Co collaboration between two popular student run acapella groups.

In The Swing Of Things
Yesterday was Fall Frolic, which means it’s time for student clubs and activities (and academic work) to get in full swing. This was actually the first time since my first year at Bryn Mawr that I didn’t have to table for a club. In the past, I have tabled for both the Asian Students Association and for Choom Boom K-Pop Dance Club. This time, I walked by the club booths and ate the brownies served by Erdman. Signing up for a student club is an excellent way to meet new friends and explore new hobbies. Although I didn’t sign up for many new clubs because of time constraints, I couldn’t wait to see who would join clubs I was already part of. Bi-Co Chamber Music Concert
Last Tuesday night was one of the Bi-Co Music Department’s Chamber Music Concerts. A couple of my friends were performing, so I attended in support. I also enjoy chamber music, having been a clarinetist active in bands, orchestra, and chamber music prior to college.

“How to Win at Checkers (Every Time)” Film Screening with ASA
Last week on April 25, the Asian Students Association hosted a screening of the film “How to Win at Checkers (Every Time).” The 2015 film by Korean American director Josh Kim is based on Thai American writer Rattawut Lapcharoensap’s acclaimed 2004 short story collection “Sightseeing,” a story about growing up in Thailand as told through the lens of a lower class boy (Oat) observing his older brother (Ek) go through the military draft and work to support the family.
A Day in Philly: Federal Donuts, Philadelphia Orchestra & Trader Joe’s
Last Friday April 22, my friend Joy Angelica Chan (BMC ’17) took me out to spend the day in Philly. We both don’t have classes on Friday. Joy was treating me to the Philadelphia Orchestra as a belated birthday gift. We also met up with our friend Sam (BMC ’15) and did some last minute gifts shopping for the Spring Dance Concert.

Getting Ready for Spring Dance Concert 2016
This week is tech week for the Bryn Mawr College Dance Department’s Annual Spring Dance Concert. Bryn Mawr and Haverford dancers, faculty choreographers, and theater lighting and backstage managers all work together to prepare for the show this weekend April 23 & 24 in Goodhart. It is a stressful and tiring time of the year, including schoolwork, but we somehow manage to get through 3 hour rehearsals, costume fittings, lighting design, getting used to stage spacing, etc…

Bi-Co Orchestra Spring Concert
There’s nothing like a Friday night and classical music! Tonight was the Bi-Co Orchestra concert at Haverford’s Marshall Auditorium. The program featured Dvorak’s Violin Concerto in A Minor, Op. 53 and Brahms Symphony No. 4 in E minor, Op. 98.

King Lear Performance by Bryn Mawr Theater
Tonight I watched the Bryn Mawr Theater Department’s production of Shakespeare’s King Lear. Students involved in this production, either acting or managing backstage, were part of the Bryn Mawr 360° Program “Shakespeare in Global and Local Landscapes.” They had the opportunity to work with 8th graders in Philadelphia learning Shakespeare in the modern urban context and to travel to Iceland to understand the changeable forces of nature.

Tamagawa Taiko & Dance Performance
On Tuesday April 5, Tamagawa University Taiko & Dance Troupe performed at Haverford College. They traveled all the way from Tokyo, Japan for their performance tour in the USA. 
Penn Philippine Association Barrio Culture Show
On Sunday, I attended the Penn Philippine Association Culture Show: Balikbayan at the International House in University City. It was my first time attending a Penn student event, so I felt a little out of place. I didn’t know anyone and I was going alone, but I still enjoyed the buffet dinner and the show.
